50 Shoes That Changed The World

When it comes to shoes, not many of us can say that they know a whole lot about the evolution of its fashion trends and developments. In fact, many of us side track this essential accessory in favor of clothes. 50 Shoes That Changed The World a wonderful informative book published by London’s Design Museum is a book I think all fashion designers and fashionistas (self proclaimed or not) should read.

The book charts the developments of the 50 most iconic shoes in the last 150 years starting with the Frye Boot in 1863. the book also examines the importance of Wellies, Crocs and Platform Wedges. You also get to learn interesting bits of information such as how a doctor's ankle injury launched a boot (Dr. Martens) that became the symbol of a generation's defiance and how an immigrant Italian plucked the name Tod's out of the New York telephone directory to define the driving shoe that perfectly encapsulates the American dream.

50 Shoes That Changed The World is available on Amazon and all good bookstores.
